pad"Midnight Dreams" by the Crandells $3,500

Michelle and Allen Crandell present their "artists' proof" of "Midnight Dreams" for sale with us, marked with an "A/P". Showing their frequent metallic dragon with crystal perched atop the kaleidoscope, some of their earlier work was without the dragon at the request of some collectors. They will be making 20 of this edition called "Midnight Dreams" and each piece will be signed, numbered and dated.

Their expert choice of technique on their unique soldering again takes on a medieval look. The near-black solder work enhances the centuries-old aura of their new work in "Midnight Dreams".

Along with the "Grenadine Dreams" kaleidoscope, the mirror system shows a 2 mirror mandala of 11 points as shown in the inset pictures. The mirror systems are expertly done, and very symmetrical patterns are evident inside the kaleidoscope. This irridized black kaleidoscope measures 11 1/2" to the viewing area from the table, with 14" to the tallest point of the kaleidoscope. The 8 sided kaleidoscope is three inches in diameter, making a large interior image. The kaleidoscope portion measures 10" in length, with two 6" wheels. One of the wheels has 48 pieces radiating from the center, and is best placed last onto the axle. The second wheel has numerous pieces of glass, too numerous to count, which result in a multitude of color and brilliance.

The Crandells' reputation is well-known, and contributing to the artists' provenance, they are found in many published kaleidoscope books. They have been featured in "Kaleidoscopia", a five year calendar for 1995-1999, by Cozy Baker, 1994, Beechcliff Books for October 1998 and February 1999. They also appear in "Kaleidoscope Renaissance," a hardback, updated, revised and amplified version of "Through the Kaleidoscope. . . and Beyond" and "Kaleidorama" by Cozy Baker, 1993, Beechcliff Books, Out of print, but available on pp. 66, 78, 114 and 181.

A third book in which they appear is "Kaleidoscopes: Wonders of Wonder", a hardback book again by Cozy Baker, 1999, C & T Publishing, Inc., Concord, CA 94518. This book is available from us, and their work is found on pp. 48, 51, 124 and 128. Finally, the fourth book in which the Crandells appear is "The Kaleidoscope Collector's Guide" a paperback edited and available by Mary Margaret Gibson on p. 37. AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE SHIPMENT.
